Desert cacti rising out of pale sand, shot in hard sun so the ridged columns cast long defined shadows across the ground. The contrast between the spined silhouettes and the smooth sand does most of the compositional work.

The palette is limited to bleached sand, dusty green and deep shadow, which makes it an easy image to build a restrained colour scheme around.
